How to Style a Halloween-Themed Christmas Tree (Step-by-Step Guide)
Halloween-themed Christmas tree decorated. Styled for modern seasonal décor.
Halloween it’s making its way into Christmas trees! This bold décor trend brings together the magic of the holidays with the spookiness of Halloween.
Whether you love gothic accents, playful pumpkins, or dramatic colors, a Halloween Christmas tree is a chic and creative way to surprise your guests this season.
In this post, I will walk you through how I styled my Halloween-inspired Christmas tree, plus you’ll find a fast-motion video of the installation at the end!
Why a Halloween Christmas Tree?
It blends two favorite holidays into one centerpiece.
Perfect for early seasonal decorators who want something unique.
It sets a bold and playful statement in your living room.
This trend has gone viral on Pinterest and Instagram—and once you try it, you’ll see why.
Step 1: Choose Your Color Palette
For this tree, I mixed:
Black & white checks for a gothic touch.
Deep oranges to add warmth and intensity.
Golden ornaments for a festive glow.
Spooky accents like eyes, skeletons, and oversized bows.
Pro Tip: Stick to 3–4 main colors to keep your tree elegant and not overly busy.
Pro Tip: I’ve gathered a few Amazon finds that would work perfectly for creating your own theme-tree.

Step 2: Add Statement Ornaments

Jack-o’-lantern plush toys.
Oversized ornaments.
Ghost and skeleton accents.
A giant star topper reimagined with a spooky vibe.

Step 3: Layer with Ribbons & Textures
I used black-and-white checkered ribbons cascading down the tree. They tie all the elements together while creating movement. You can also add:
Burlap tree skirt for a rustic feel.
Feathers or branches for height.
Different ribbon textures and widths to add interest.

Step 4: Add Lighting for Drama
Warm white lights make the dark ornaments pop while still keeping the tree cozy.
Place some lights deeper inside the branches to add depth.
Wrap some around statement ornaments for extra glow.
Use different sources of light to create layers and visual drama. For example, I combined classic warm string lights woven deep into the branches with fun accent pieces, eyeball light extensions and firework lights, to naturally guide the eye to different areas of the tree. The result? A tree that feels dynamic, spooky, and full of personality.

Step 5: Style the Base
Instead of traditional Christmas gifts (since this design is for Halloween), I placed plush Halloween characters, pumpkins, and lanterns at the base of the tree. This ties the whole theme together and gives the design a complete, cohesive look.
Pro Tip: I’ve curated a few Amazon picks that pair beautifully with this look. They’re perfect for creating a stylish vignette around your tree and tying the whole theme together.
